Botox

Contrary to popular myth, Botox is extremely safe and FDA approved. There’s only one simple reason that Botox is so widely popular—it’s because it gives patient’s the results they want!

Botox for medical purposes

In cosmetic applications, a Botox injection, consisting of a small dose of botulinum toxin, can be used to prevent development of wrinkles by paralyzing facial muscles. As of 2007, it is the most common cosmetic operation, with 4.6 million procedures in the United States, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Qualifications for Botox injectors vary by county, state and country. Botox cosmetic providers include dermatologists, plastic surgeons, aesthetic spa physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, nurses and physician assistants. The wrinkle-preventing effect of Botox normally lasts about three to four months, but can last up to six months. Following treatment, visible results of Botox Cosmetic are usually seen within 3–5 days, however it can take up to 2 weeks to see full results (courtesy of Wikipedia).

Side Effects

Side effects of Botox are very, very rare. The most common complication is bruising at the site of the injection, though this is very uncommon. Unity Medical Clinic is exceptionally careful when injecting the Botox to minimize the potential for bruising. Other very rare complications include brow drooping or lid drooping. Headache is also a very rare side effect, but has been shown NOT to be due to the Botox, but rather due to the stress of being poked with a sharp needle.

We use ultra-fine needles

Unity Medical Clinic uses the smallest needle available (31 gauge). Additionally, though most facilities will utilize the same needle for many injections on a given patient, Unity Medical Clinic prefers to use each needle for only one injection. These ultra-fine needles become dull after only one or two uses so we therefore use a fresh needle for each and every injection to minimize patient discomfort.

Botox pricing

In terms of price, we charge by the unit at $12 per unit. We do not charge “by the region,” because everyone’s face is created differently, patients have different goals, and therefore require dramatically different quantities of Botox. We tailor each patient’s treatment to accommodate their specific aesthetic desires.

Patient satisfaction

We are strongly committed to patient satisfaction. Unity Medical Clinic knows that our patients are knowledgeable consumers and have many options in terms of where they obtain their cosmetic services. If a patient is ever less than fully satisfied with his or her treatment, every effort will be made to make it right. Touch-ups are almost always free.

Juvéderm

Juvéderm, an injectable filler (injectable facial filler), is used by cosmetic, dermatological, and plastic surgeons to soften deep folds and reduce wrinkles in the faces of patients. The substance is largely hyaluronic acid, a substance normally found in the skin, muscles, and tendons of mammals. Approved in June 2006 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Juvéderm’s prime use is removing nasolabial folds, or “smile lines,” creases of skin which run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth. It is also used as a lip augmentation agent, and to fill in hollow places and scars on the face. However, all hyaluronic acid facial filler products are eventually absorbed by the body, usually within six to nine months, causing the patient to undergo repeat injections to maintain the younger look. Juvéderm is also used by physicians to plump lips, which also lose fat and internal shape with normal aging (courtesy of Wikipedia).

Procedure

At Unity Medical Clinic our procedure requires a series of injections of the filler into the desired treatment areas. Prior to the injections, a topical anesthetic lotion (numbing cream) is applied to the skin to diminish the discomfort of the injections.

Latisse

Latisse was introduced in the first quarter of 2009 by Allergan as the first drug to receive FDA approval for eyelash growth. Latisse is a solution of bimatoprost, the active component of the glaucoma medication Lumigan. According to Allergan, noticeable eyelash growth occurs within 16 weeks. Growth is reported to occur primarily on the upper eyelashes. In addition, the past decade has seen the rapid increase in the development of eyelash conditioners. These conditioners are designed to increase the health and length of your lashes. Many utilize seed extract, minerals, and other chemicals to achieve these results (courtesy of Wikipedia).

Latisse has minimal side effects

Latisse solution may cause other less common side effects, typically occurring either on the skin close to the application location or in the eyes. These include skin darkening (may be reversible with discontinuation of use), eye irritation, eye dryness, and redness of eyelids. Latisse is manufactured by Allergan, whose Ophthalmic Pharmaceuticals division has a long history as a global leader in the eye care industry.

Latisse requires a doctor’s prescription

Latisse is available by prescription only. Patients with pre-existing conditions may require closer supervision to ensure safety. Unity Medical Clinic’s familiarity with this and other Allergan products make our doctors an excellent choice for prescribing and monitoring the use of this treatment.
